The "made in Reunion" project Proxemploi chosen

Following the invitation to tender for the national projects Proxima Mobile, the Reunion project Proxemploi was chosen for putting job-seekers in contact with employers in Reunion, through local services.

On 16 July 2009, the Secretary of State responsible for Prospects and Development in the Digital Economy, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, invited tenders for the national projects Proxima Mobile. With a budget of 10 M€, it will finance the setting up of innovative applications and mobile services for all users.

Over a period of two months, more than 250 applications were filed by a variety of actors (small and medium sized businesses, governement agencies, and societies). In the end, 68 projects were chosen, covering a wide range of activities : health, education, the handicapped, personal services, employment, consumption, culture, sustainable development, etc.

Among the 68 projects chosen and announced on 26th October 2009, was that of a group of Reunion-based companies which includes Runware, DM Conseil (a firm of IT engineers specialising in advice for town halls on public works) Projicom (on line services aimed at text management) and Cahri (a dvelopment agency agence working on traditional and mobile internet applications).

Entitled Proxemploi, this project aims to put job-seekers in touch with employers in Reunion through local services (web applications and mobile internet, free wi-fi internet access, Blutooth transmitters and short text messages).

Runware will take a central part in this project, dealing with the design and setting up of Bluetooth transmitters connected to the Proxemploi portal.

It is a system which shares information between students, graduates, the University's administration, and public and private domain actors, and allows the creation of directories by course studied, the scheduling of meetings, the sponsoring of promotions, help from graduates for students seeking work, and so on.

The Proxemploi project labellised

The Proxemploi project was labellised Service Proxima Mobile by the Secretary of State Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet at the public launch of the service portal over mobile telephone.

During the public launch of the service portal Proxima Mobile over mobile telephone by the Secretary of State Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet on 18 February 2010, Proxemploi was awarded the label "Service Proxima Mobile".

This achievement marked the beginning of a large communication exercise concerning labellised projects, and some commentators have already mentioned Proxemploi as one of the "10 applications not to be missed".

Proxemploi is a service which automatically centralises job vacancies published by government agencies, temping agencies, companies and individuals.

The user can access the service in many different ways (web, mobile phone, Bluetooth, etc.), and can be informed of a suitable vacancy by email or text, wherever he or she may be, at home or or on the move.

If they wish, users can receive suitable lob offers by email or text. They can also decide how often they wish to receive these messages.

Free wi-fi and Bluetooth hot spots, to be known as ‘Proxspots', will be made available to users who do not have an internet or 3G connection, and these will be located in public spaces such as town halls, shopping malls, and so on. Users wil have access to personalised help in signing up to the scheme, and in order to receive appropriate job offers.

In January 2010 Runware was officially approved by Apple, through the granting of the « Made for iPod », « Made for iPhone » et « Made for iPad » licenses, for the design, production and marketing of electronic accessories which can be connected to an iPod, an iPhone or an iPad.

Some acessories are currently near completion.

This participation in the « MFi » program has allowed Runware to become part of Apple's official network, with access to documentation and technical specifications (software and hardware protocols in use since the O.S. 3.0), to hardware components (particularly the authentification chips), to testing tools, to technical support, to favored contacts and to the « MFi » certification logos.

A few figures can give an idea of the potential market: 50 million iPhones will have been sold by the end of 2010, with an estimated 80 million in use by 2012. The one million mark of iPads sold was passed in only 28 days (compared to 74 for the iPhone), 300,000 being sold on the first day. However, Apple only made the design of communicating technologies possible quite recently, and skills in the field are still rare.

Runware have therefore put their knowledge of system development, electronic interfaces and firmware into the creation of new and innovative communicating accessories for mobile telephones. Runware's expertise in Bluetooth – in the development of devices for Bluetooth marketing, its selection to tender for the national project Proxima Mobile, and more - means that they cannot only connect/link their accessories wirelessly, but also via Apple's own connector or of any other mobile phone.

Today, Runware has a software framework developed in-house: SOFIA (SOftware Framework for Iphone/pad/pod Accessories), as well as a rapid prototyping system which allows interaction between its products and native applications.

Several accessory designs have already been approved by Apple in various domains – video games, fitness, health, industry and innovative gadgets. Some of these accessories have gone beyond the design stage and are already operational.

A whole new world is opening up for traditional mobile applications, which are now able to extend their features and combine, by hardwire or Bluetooth, with diverse electronic modules/equipment.

Runware are currently on their first round of fund-raising and are keenly aware of the needs of investors in Reunion. The prospects are encouraging: the market is huge and poorly served, and Runware benefits from core agreements with Apple, is finalising several accessories which are practically operational, and possesses clearly identified channels for marketing its accessoiries.
